If you want to build this circuit with the indicator LEDs like the prototype, just add one additional pole to each toggle switch.
You can keep the LED current draw down by using high-brightness, common cathode (or anode), bi-color devices with
about 2.7K to 3.3K limiting resistors - they will be plenty bright. Ebay sellers usually have them directly imported from China
for about 10 cents each. I used Red/Green, but it's the builder's preference as to which color(s) to use.
